Are insecticides effective?

Publié le . Dernière mise à jour le , par Jean-François — 4 min de lecture.

Chemical insecticides or natural methods?

We know that insects can develop resistance to chemicals. All insects are affected, bedbugs, cockroaches, ants, fleas . This is especially true in large buildings that have been infested for years. Insects move from apartment to apartment, they are exposed to various chemicals, and if they are not killed, they get used to resisting small doses. From small doses to small doses that make them sick without killing them, they end up becoming very resistant. Finally, more and more insecticide chemicals are needed for an uncertain result.

Are natural methods effective?

Yes, and they are not addictive.

While an insect can gradually become accustomed to a poison, it can never become accustomed to being cooked, frozen, dehydrated or trapped.

  • Heat is very effective. Washing at 60° at least, steam ironing, steam cleaner, and especially the anti-bedbug heating tent kill 100% of insects and their eggs in 4 hours without any chemicals .
  • Cold is also effective . This treatment requires a large freezer, and it takes longer. The items to be treated must remain at -20° for 72 hours.
  • Diatomaceous earth. Probably the oldest natural insecticide. It contains no chemicals, this algae sediment dust has the power to dehydrate all insects.
  • Traps. Whether they are simply sticky or pheromone traps , they are very effective for trapping insects and for assessing their population . If a trap remains empty after 15 days, it is a good sign, if it is full in 24 hours, you should worry.
  • Prevention. We all know the saying: Prevention is better than cure. I'm thinking of special anti-bedbug covers to protect mattresses and box springs. To avoid throwing away your bed unnecessarily, these covers prevent insects (bedbugs, fleas and mites) from hiding in mattresses and box springs, and laying eggs there. To be used when a bed is infested, and better still, as a preventative measure, to prevent it from becoming so.

I also think about good practices to avoid bringing these harmful insects into your home. Precautions to take when traveling, and when returning from a trip . Be careful if you buy second-hand clothes or objects. Flea markets will probably soon be called bedbug markets.

Can we do without chemical insecticides?

In case of infestation of bedbugs, cockroaches, gibbiums, moths, fleas, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to do without chemical insecticides. I think that the best solution to achieve effective treatment is to use natural methods as much as possible, and to use chemical insecticides in a reasoned way, and by applying them in the right places. To locate these places and to detect the presence of bedbugs and their nests, there is a detector product to spray on the surfaces . If a bedbug has passed by this place, we will immediately see a characteristic purple fluorescence.

The choice of these insecticides will be very important . Some are more toxic, including Sniper 1000 which is completely banned, and which can be fatal for humans and pets.

On my site, I recommend different natural techniques , and the insecticides that I have selected are almost all based on natural pyrethrin or pyrethroids.

In summary, anything that can be washed at 60°, anything that can be frozen, and anything that can be treated with the heat treatment of a heated tent (the largest tent is 2.80 m + 2 mx 1.45 m), all these things can be treated without chemicals.

To track down insects that hide under parquet floors, behind skirting boards, in hollow partitions, and to block insects that come from neighboring apartments , things get complicated.

Traps and diatomaceous earth are used, but to achieve effective treatment, natural treatment must be supplemented with chemical insecticide products using the right products and applying them in the right places.

Can you successfully do insecticide treatment yourself?

Yes, of course, you can treat a pest infestation in your apartment or house. The 9.7/10 rating of my site by my customers indicates that my advice is effective. Almost all my products are rated 5/5. Here too, my customers are very satisfied, and they tell me so.

You too can succeed with your insecticide treatment

The treatment of a building

When the common areas are infested, you need to call a specialized company. To help you with this process, I have made you standard letters for reporting an infestation to the trustee. You will find them in this article on my blog: Infestation of bedbugs, cockroaches, who should pay?

If a competent company has treated the entire building, you can consider this as a valuable help, but it will not exempt you from continuing the treatment in your apartment.

What not to do

You can't successfully treat an infestation of cockroaches, bedbugs or any other pest by spraying an insecticide purchased randomly from a supermarket every now and then.

If you decide to treat your apartment, you need to know the right method and the right products. The goal is to exterminate every last insect . If my clients are satisfied and successful with their treatment, it is because they follow my advice. For each insect, I have made treatment kits , explanatory articles in my blog, and videos.
